Hydrozid® is applied according to illustration A, B, and C below
The freeze time and freeze-thaw cycles may vary according to the type of lesion being treated, the size of the lesion as well as the anatomical location and the recommendations can range from 3-6 seconds of freeze for 2 to 6 applications (see the recommendations in the treatment table below).
The healthcare professional should always assess the individual patient and lesion to determine the correct treatment. As hypopigmentation and scarring is more frequently associated with single, long spray times, care should be taken when determining how long to freeze. Some lesions may need repeated treatment to be completely removed. When repeated treatment is needed, intervals of 1 to 2 weeks between treatments are typically recommended. However, the treatment intensity and the number of treatments depend on the individual patient and their clinical response. This is to be assessed by the healthcare professional. Complete healing takes about 10 to 14 days but is individual. |
Recommended treatment times
The freeze times provided in the table below are only recommendations. The recommendations are per lesion per treatment session. The healthcare professionals should always assess the individual patient and lesion to determine the correct treatment.
Lesion | Recommended freezing times
Allow a complete thaw before freezing again |
Recommended number of repetitions |
Verruca plantaris (plantar warts) | 6 seconds | 4 to 6 times |
Verruca vulgaris (common warts) | 6 seconds | 4 to 6 times |
Verruca plana (flat warts) | 3 seconds | 6 times |
Seborrheic keratosis | 6 seconds | 2 to 3 times |
Lentigo (age spots) | 3 seconds | 2 times |
Acrochordon (skin tags) | 3 to 6 seconds | 2 times |
Actinic keratosis | 4 to 5 seconds | 2 times |
Molluscum contagiosum | 3 to 6 seconds | 2 times |
Condyloma (genital warts) | 6 seconds | 2 to 6 times |
Gingival melanin hyperpigmentation | 3 to 6 seconds | 2 times |
Cryosurgery may produce a stinging, painful or burning sensation on the skin/mucosa during and after freezing, which will rapidly fade away after the thawing phase. Swelling and erythema after treatment is common. The treatment may result in the development of a scab or blister in the treated area. Cryosurgery may potentially cause pigmentation changes or hair loss in hair bearing areas. The pigmentation changes usually occur as hypopigmentation, but post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can also occur.
Post-treatment care: The patient should not scratch or pick in the treated area. The area should be kept clean and protected against sunlight.
Contraindications: Cryosurgery is contraindicated in patients with cryoglobulinemia, Raynaud’s disease (especially when the lesion is on fingers, toes, nose, ears, penis), cold urticaria, blood dyscrasias, or uncertain diagnosis (if there is doubt, a biopsy is recommended to determine classification and if cryosurgery with Hydrozid® is an option).
Caution: Improper or imprudent use can produce damage to the dermis and consequent scar formation and nerve damage. Do not spray on healthy skin/mucosa.
Never spray on open wounds, cuts, irritated and delicate or eczematous skin. Special caution is advised if treating patients who have impaired immune system, poor blood supply or diabetes, patients with sensitive or heavily pigmented skin, neuropathy, pyoderma gangrenosum or when treating children or elderly. Those with collagen vascular disease, diabetes, stasis problems, pyoderma gangrenosum, neuropathy, impaired immune system, and ulcerative bowel disorders may present special complications including, but not limited to, slower healing time. The healthcare professional’s discretion should be used for patient and treatment selection.
Disposal: Disposal should be in accordance with local, state, or national legislation. Hydrozid® is non-flammable.
Shelf life: Up to 3 years (see canister), under normal storage conditions.
Storage: Room temperature. Store upright, out of direct sunlight, and do not expose to temperatures exceeding 50°C. If you are planning to transport Hydrozid® in hot conditions, it is advisable to place the canister in a cooler or an area where temperatures do not exceed 50°C.
- Hydrozid® should be used by healthcare professionals only.
- Do not attempt treatment without the application templates until you have substantial experience and are familiar with the device and recommended treatment times. It is solely at the healthcare professional’s discretion to decide and to ensure it is safe and suitable to treat without the use of the application templates. Failure to use an application template and attempt an open spray could result in damage to the surrounding or underlying healthy tissue.
- Never attempt to remove the tip mounted onto the distal end of the tube. The narrow aperture of the tip makes it easier to target the lesion mitigating the risk of damaging the surrounding healthy tissue. The tip also comprises a conical inner shape that prevents condensation and dripping during the treatment.
- May be used on individuals from 5 years of age and up.
- The application templates provided must only be used with Hydrozid®. Due to the risk of cross-contamination/infection, each application template should only be used for one patient (and one type of lesion only), and subsequently be discarded.
- Avoid contact with Do not inhale. Keep out of reach of children.
- Read the instructions for use prior to treating with Hydrozid®
